My first ever mash-up book review for the new year! One is an eARC and the other one is something that I stumbled upon while I was on a quick holiday vacation. AUTHOR: Terry Theise DATE RELEASED: November 6, 2018 PUBLISHED BY: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt **For the synopsis of the book, click here THE REVIEW: *Thank you to Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (via NetGalley) for approving my request to read this eARC, in exchange for an honest review. This is a spoiler-free review. Every thoughts, feelings, and opinions about this review is solely MINE. * What DOES a wine worth drinking? If you are of legal age to drink alcoholic beverages, have you ever thought why wine is different? In this book, author Terry Theise tackles about the art of making and appreciating wine. He wrote about in a lyrical form, describing the beauty, value and soul of a wine. He also tells his readers about choosing the right wine and the difference between purchasing from an industrial winery and a family-owned, artisan winery (wherein it is a celebratory from harvesting grapes down to distillation and fermentation). I rarely drink alcoholic beverages, especially wine as my digestive system isn't happy and cause my whole body to bloat. But I do appreciate the history of each wine that I drink and unfortunately, this is not something that you will get detailed information about the process, techniques or even the different kinds of wine. So, I merely describe this book as an ode to wine. RATING: 3.75 out of 5 stars If you are a wine lover or wine aficionado, then I highly recommend this book. AUTHOR: Susan Dennard (about the author click here) DATE RELEASED: January 5, 2016 PUBLISHED BY: Tor Teen SERIES: Book 1 of The Witchlands series **For the synopsis of the book, click here THE REVIEW: This novel tells the story of two young witches, Safiya fon Hasstrel (or Safi) and Iseult det Midenzi. They are threadsisters - bound to protect each other's back whenever one is in trouble. Highly trained, they usually get away from trouble until now. Safi's secret was out the moment they got in trouble with a powerful Guildmaster and had his bloodwitch, Aeduan chased them. Safi and Iseult were forced to flee from their village. From that day, Safi and Iseult found themselves tangled into the web of power corruption, political conspiracies and ancient prophecy that might save all of Witchland. WHY THE HELL THIS BOOK IS UNDERRATED??? Ok, I need to calm myself down and compose a decent review. Sorry about that. I'm all into epic sisterly friends and/or brotherly friends that goes beyond family and blood (I mean this also happens in reality, right?). With all honesty, I was very skeptical when I came across this book. There was not much of a buzz in both bookstagram and booktube that makes me wonder why. I hope I'm not living under a rock or something but that's how observant I am. Anyway, this is a fantasy set in a world where witches harness elemental powers. Described in full details about each cities and their current conditions. Readers are get to be introduced to a whole set of characters that will shape the course of Safi's and Iseult's fate: Habim and Mathew, heart-thread mentor and tutor of the girls who are allies with Safi's uncle Eron fon Hasstrel. Merik Nihar, a powerful windwitch prince and the ship's captain who is cunning with his own agenda. Aeduan, a Carawen monk and bloodwitch who works as mercenary for rich Guildmaster and has a dark secret. This is a novel about the test of true friendship, of true loyalty, of the real call of duty and tested leadership, and of what is right and what is wrong. It has me swooning about characters' chemistries (I'm shipping Iseult and Aeduan so hard!), had me on the edge of my seat, and literally begging for more. The only issue that I have with this is that there are some scenes that are too fast-paced that I was not bale to grasped and have to flipped several pages back to re-read everything. RATING: 4 out of 5 stars
Think Avatar: The Last Airbender mashed into Assassin's Creed with a mix of ACOTAR characters (mainly Nesta, Mor, Azriel, Elain, Cassian and Amren). I highly recommend this to fantasy fans and those who are looking for quick, light read.
